Creative Solutions are on the Rise
Well-designed natural infrastructure can support communities in building resilience in the face of our changing environment. From assessment, through design and permitting, WSSI develops cost effective solutions for individual sites in a wholistic manner. Our staff identifies the underlying causes of erosion and develops a design that will protect and restore the eroded shorelines.
Making it Count
In addition to the necessary engineering, our team is also experienced in acquiring the various permits needed to perform work in and around tidal and non-tidal wetland systems and waterways, as well as in other sensitive protected areas, such as Chesapeake Bay critical areas and protection areas. WSSI can also provide sea level rise analyses for existing sites or proposed projects, and is well versed in performing the site assessments necessary for living shoreline projects to obtain MS4 TMDL nutrient reduction and impervious area credit.
Helping Communities Achieve their Ecosystem Goals
Along with designing for the technical requirements of a specific site, living shoreline features can be selected to support a variety of habitat and recreation goals, including creating habitat for various fish, birds, oysters, or even terrapins. We cater plant selection based on the local setting and desired aesthetics.
