Mitigation & Restoration

As one of the leading environmental and cultural resource consulting firms in the Mid-Atlantic, WSSI has a reputation for constructing remarkably successful stream and wetland restoration projects – projects that have been cited by regulatory agencies as models to be emulated.

You Can Bank on WSSI’s Success

We have restored more than 75 miles of stream channels in the Mid-Atlantic, returning stability to badly degraded channels and riparian ecosystems that have been impacted by watershed changes. This includes our development of Virginia’s first dedicated stream restoration bank.

We have also designed and constructed more than 1,000 acres of wetlands, including the first privately developed wetland mitigation bank in Virginia, as well as the first three in northern Virginia.

Ecologically Functional and Sustainable Mitigation

Our mitigation projects aim to create streams and wetlands that not only meet the success criteria of our clients, but are also ecologically functional, aesthetically pleasing, and self-sustaining. These projects have earned a reputation of being the industry standard in aquatic resource banking, gaining respect of federal, state, and local agencies.

There’s No One Better in the Field!

Our success is based on a commitment to being the best in the field. We have some of the highest trained and qualified individuals in the industry, many of whom have been at the forefront of the evolution of stream, wetland, and water quality regulations and compliance requirements.

Thanks to Nathan Staley and [WSSI], my students are using “real” data to help them visualize and understand the plan/profile drawing creation process. I have been teaching this class for 35 years now… It is difficult to train young engineers how to properly document designs. I really liked the clear and simple plan and profile layouts that [WSSI] prepares. Layouts are a difficult topic for students, but examples of “real” work help to drive the points home.
