When an industrial stormwater discharge permittee needed to get its records in order, WSSI was able to get them on the track to compliance. The permittee, with their updated Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), was able to demonstrate a good faith effort to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ).

The Challenge

Blue Ridge Plastics, which produces extruder-ready raw material from post-consumer and post-industrial plastic scrap, had to prepare for a site visit from North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) staff. They realized that their records were out of date not in compliance with the requirements of their NCG130000 industrial permit for discharging stormwater from an industrial facility dealing with non-metal waste and scrap.

Our Solution

Working with the operators, WSSI staff proactively addressed each permit requirement and updated the site’s SWPPPs to reflect training plans, changes in site characteristics, best management practices, and other facility activities that have supported permit compliance. The NCDEQ review went well, with the recycling facility staying in good stead for its industrial wastewater permit.
